iPhones top popularity rankings

Tuesday September 3rd 2013

Apple's smartphones are still proving extremely popular with gadget lovers, scoring another hat-trick in the rankings during August.

Its three iPhones remain at the top of the Mobile Tracker - based on live searches, pre-orders and sales - for the second consecutive month.

The iPhone 5 still leads the way after six months as the nation's favourite handset , followed by the iPhone 4S.

Even the older iPhone 4 is back in the game, having established bronze status thanks to a summer resurgence at the expense of the Samsung Galaxy S4.

It's been a bad first half of the year for the South Korean manufacturer, with its cheaper S4 Mini failing to strike a blow to Apple's stronghold since launching in June - sitting seventh in the rankings.

The older S2, meanwhile, has also fallen out of the top ten for the first time in 2013.

Elsewhere, the HTC One is the highest-ranking handset not from the 'big two', holding its mid-table, sixth position for the second month in a row.

Experts are predicting that things will heat up from September, with the race for Christmas set to get underway. This winter's hottest new handsets are expected to go on display at the upcoming IFA trade show in Berlin.
