Toyota 'making progress' on repairs
Friday March 26th 2010
Troubled vehicle manufacturer Toyota has completed work on two-thirds of the cars it recalled in the UK, it has been announced.
It is unknown whether or not the repair work will act as car value protector but owners are hoping for the best.
The update came as the company prepared for a two-week shut-down at its Burnaston plant in Derbyshire, to commence on April 12. The firm says the closure will allow engineers to prepare for manufacturing of the new hybrid Auris model.
Toyota has had to recall around 190,000 cars in the UK due to problems with braking and sticking accelerator pedals.
The company said that nearly 119,000 - more than 66% - of the accelerator problem vehicles had now been fixed, while more than 6,800 - or about 70% - of the Prius models had had their braking software amended.
Toyota has recalled a total of 8.5 million vehicles worldwide.
