Survey reveals Brits as feline fanatics

Tuesday June 17th 2014

Half of cat owners say they'd prefer to spend time with their furry friend rather than another human, according to a survey.

In a further sign of Britain's obsession with all things feline, over a third of cat owners say they use internet video calling services such as Skype and Facetime to stay in touch with their pets. Over 1,000 cat owners aged 18 to 80 took part in the survey, conducted by card retailer Hallmark.

The research found that one in five owners take their cat on holiday with them, with 15 per cent admitting to serving their moggy specially-made meals each day.

Meanwhile over a third (37%) of male owners have attempted to teach their cat tricks, with just over one in ten (11%) saying their cat was so talented it could go on Britain's Got Talent. Almost 30% of women and nearly 18% of men consider their cat to be a fully-fledged member of the family who, enjoys the same perks as everybody else, such as birthday cards and presents.
