Search for Purr-fect political pet
Friday January 9th 2015
The search is on to find Britain's favourite cat owned by a politician.
Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is holding its second Purr Minister competition and the public will be asked to choose the cat they like the best from a selection of felines belonging to members of the Houses of Parliament and Lords.
MPs and peers have been asked to write 50 words about their cats and why they deserve to win Purr Minister 2015.
The winner of the competition in 2014 was Sefton Central MP Bill Esterson's cat Kevin.
He says he is happy to have Kevin in the contest as he believes it marks the excellent work of the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and it is a great reminder that the UK is full of people who love animals.
The election process for Purr Minister 2015 starts on Thursday, January 15, and votes can be cast up to Monday, January 26. This year's winner is due to be revealed two days later.
