Pop-up cat rehoming centre opens in London

Monday July 27th 2015

Britain's newest cat rehoming unit has opened in the south London district of Mitcham.

Officials at the pop-up centre hope to find new permanent families for around 50 cats every month. Cat Protection's latest project, which opened on Saturday (July 25), is on the former site of an empty warehouse.

Those looking to adopt one of the moggies have been invited to visit. The charity is providing both vet services and pens for cats in their temporary home as they wait to be adopted.

Similar Cat Protection pop-up centres will be rolled out throughout the country between now and 2020 if the charity's strategy goes according to plan. Rosie Wheeler, the new centre's deputy manager, said it is key that the cats are given another chance to find a loving home.

She spoke of the "great work" happening at the site, adding that the centre is partnering with other bodies to make sure Mitcham's urban cats are looked after.
