Pet owners urged to enter photo contest

Tuesday September 20th 2016

Pet owners in Leicestershire have been urged to enter their furry friends into a photo competition.

The Hinckley Times is encouraging local animal lovers to send in pictures of their pets, ranging from cats and dogs through to rats and parrots.

The newspaper said hundreds of entries have already been submitted to its Pet Idol 2016 competition, with a cheque of £100 available to the winning owner.

A special supplement will be published by the paper next month, with readers then given the chance to have their say on the most eye-catching pet.

Commenting on the contest, editor Simon Holden said it gets better with each passing year.

He added: " Last year there were 400 entries. The people of Hinckley really love their pets and I am sure there will be an even bigger entry this year."

Mr Holden also pointed out that any type of pet can be entered into the competition, with unusual creatures welcome.

To enter the Pet Idol competition, readers can send in images of their pets to by midnight on September 25.
