Pet dog helps owner rescue missing cat

Tuesday June 23rd 2015

Most people are familiar with the old saying that a man's best friend is his dog.

But, despite their reputation for clashing, it now seems that dogs can also be a cat's best friend.

Millie the beagle has helped her owners to track down and rescue their cat from a tangle of barbed wire eight weeks after she went missing.

Millie was walking with her owner, Pete Adney, when they heard a series of distressed meows.

Although Mr Adney, of Castle Bromwich in the West Midlands, was about to walk on after being unable to pinpoint the sound, he stopped in his tracks when Millie began barking and whining.

Mr Adney, 48, went to investigate only to find that his pet cat, Jess, who had gone missing two months earlier, was trapped in barbed wire behind a wall. He says he is convinced that Millie realised it was his feline friend making the noise.

Mr Adney was able to free two-year-old Jess before taking her to a local vet. The pet cat was then transferred to a pet hospital in Coventry, where she underwent surgery to remove the piece of barbed wire which had trapped her.
