Oar-inspiring dog in charity kayak trek
Tuesday July 19th 2016
A dog called Max is set to undertake an epic 100-mile, 138-lock charity kayak journey this autumn.
The Staffordshire bull terrier will take to the canoe with Warrington, Cheshire-based owner John Oakley. The challenge will raise funds for the RSPCA, which originally rehomed the intrepid pooch.
Max is even getting a tailor-made life jacket adapted for the journey, which is likely to start on Sunday, September 18 from Goole in Yorkshire.
It is due to finish by Stockton Heath's London Bridge Inn in Warrington six days later. The pair will sleep in a tent, but Mr Oakley says that Max is used to getting his own way so will probably get the tent to himself.
A special RSPCA welcoming committee will be on hand in the pub at the end of the journey. Mr Oakley says Max loves kayaking and thought the trek would be a good way of thanking the animal charity for the care it gave the dog.
