New hi-tech Olympic clinic to open

The state-of-the-art injury clinic in the Olympic athletes' village will accommodate 200 sportspeople every day during the London 2012 Games, it has been revealed.

The new polyclinic will be situated in Stratford's Olympic Park in east London and is key for athletes pushing their bodies to the limit to try and win a medal.

The clinic will remain open all day, every day for as many as 16,000 Olympic athletes and their team officials and 6,200 Paralympic athletes and their team officials.

Strains, sprains, wounds, grazes and minor illnesses like colds will be the main sorts of problems treated at the clinic with help from 10 London 2012 staff, 500 Games Maker volunteers and 80 on-call health experts.

Other treatments available will include sports medicine, imaging, physical therapies such as physiotherapy, dentistry, optometry, podiatry, a pharmacy, primary care services and variety of on-call experts.

A polyclinic emergency section will open up 24 hours a day and offer emergency services between 11pm and 7am.
