Internet goes crazy for cats
Tuesday August 11th 2015
Thousands of cat lovers around the world recently took over the internet to celebrate their beloved moggies.
People posted selfies and videos of their feline friends for #InternationalCatDay on August 8, as social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube were inundated with even more cat material than usual.
The day of recognition was created by the International Fund for Animal Welfare in 2002. It saw the standard funny footage of cats doing everything from jumping off sofas to playing pianos, not to mention snaps of them lazing about and generally being cute.
Perhaps the most revered internet kitty of all, Grumpy Cat - real name Tardar Sauce - was once again central to the celebrations. She has amassed millions of followers online thanks to her grumpy facial expressions.
And cat lovers do not have long to wait until the next big celebration. The Internet Cat Video Festival, which celebrates the best cat videos on the web, will be held on August 12. People can still vote for their favourite.
