Heroic dog Frodo passes away

Tuesday November 11th 2014

Hundreds of tributes have flooded in after a life-saving dog called Frodo sadly passed away.

The 10-year-old beagle was honoured with a special gold medal by the PDSA after he saved his owners from a house fire six years ago.

Battling smoke and flames, Frodo woke up owner Liam Towers, saving him from injury when the ceiling collapsed into the living room, and also saving the lives of Liam's partner Jenny Barwise and her parents David and Annette, who were in the house in St Bees, Cumbria, at the time of the blaze.

Now a Facebook post by the PDSA has announced the death of the courageous pet. Within 24 hours, the post had received 415 comments, 4,000 likes and 236 shares on the social media site.

Sean Wensley, PDSA senior veterinary surgeon, said the loss of any animal is often difficult but added the bond is stronger if the pet has saved not only your own life but the lives of those closest to you.
