Hero dog sends SOS distress bark

Tuesday March 17th 2015

It may sound like something from an old Lassie film but Hero the abandoned Labrador mix has helped to rescue 11 dogs.

His SOS distress call - or bark - led dog experts to a weak female hound and her litter of 10 ill pups. Hero had been missing from a rescue centre.

Hero had eluded the staff of a Texas-based dog rescue centre who were attempting to rescue him from a Dallas park.

But he decided to become more conspicuous to alert John Miller, a dog behaviourist, and Marina Tarashevsce, a rescuer, when he sensed the young family were in danger.

Each time they moved closer towards him last Tuesday (March 10), the dog began barking, eventually attracting John and Marina.
