Unusual Pet Friendships

Tuesday June 6th 2017

What’s more adorable than one pet? More pets of course! Particularly if they’re best buds. Here are some of the most unusual and endearing pet friendships. Get ready to say: “Awwwww!”

Puppet and Puff

These guys should not get on. On the face of it, lizards and cats are not easy bedfellows. And yet Puppet (the cat) and Puff (the lizard) are firm friends who love to snuggle.

Juniper and Moose

These guys are quite the celebrities in social circles. Juniper was rescued as a baby and has been BFFs with doggy brother/boyfriend Moose since she was a little kit.
Juniper’s human mum writes articles and blogs about the challenges (and rewards) of looking after Juniper, and strongly dissuades people from adopting foxes without fully understanding their needs.

Baloo, Leo and Shere Khan

Although not pets (and never should have been), we couldn’t resist mentioning this gorgeous trio, who became quite famous a few years ago after they were rescued from cages at a drug dealer’s house.

Baloo (bear), Leo (lion) and Shere Khan (tiger) – or BLT as they’re also known – had been kept in terrible conditions, but refused to be separated once they were rescued. Sob! Thankfully, this band of brothers were taken to a safe haven to live together: Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary in Georgia, USA.

Sadly, Leo the lion died last year, but Baloo and Shere Khan are still together and very much best friends – they’re about to celebrate their joint 16th birthday party together.

Rudy and Barclay

Rudy the duck and Barclay the dog are both lovable scamps in their own right, but together they’re beyond delightful.

Barclay, who was originally scared of the tiny duckling Rudy, developed a closer bond with him as he grew and now they’re bosom buddies. They’re main hobbies include cuddling together, playing in Rudy’s pond and napping on the kitchen floor. Rudy is quite possessive and has even been known to nip the toes if anyone gets too close when they’re snuggling!

Suryia and Roscoe

Suryia the orangutan and Roscoe the dog met at The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (TIGERS) in South Carolina and soon became fast friends.

They swim together, play together and Suryia loves to take Roscoe on daily walks. “They will spend a few hours each day together rolling around, swimming,” says Dr Antle, founder of TIGERS.

“Suryia will take Roscoe for walks around the enclosure and even feeds him some of his monkey biscuits. When they are both feeling a little lazy they will go for a ride on the back of Bubbles, our 27-year-old African elephant.”
