The Various Ways You Can Help Animal Charities

Monday September 19th 2016

Despite the fact that many animal lovers would like to help out more with their local shelters, it’s quite common that other responsibilities and the issue of time will tend to get in the way of people actually volunteering. However, you don’t have to let your busy schedule stop you from getting involved, there are many other ways in which you can help your local animal shelters without having to invest all of your free time.

Fostering

Although this may not be the simplest way to help, it is perhaps the most valuable. Animal shelters usually face an overwhelming demand, and so temporarily fostering animals allows space to be freed up whilst they are waiting to be adopted. Not only is this an extremely fulfilling act, but most animal shelters will also offer to pay for food and vet bills, to ensure that the financial aspect isn’t too much of a burden.

Donation

Obviously, monetary donations will always be extremely well received from any animal shelter, however not all of us are in a position where donating money is possible. If you aren’t able to donate financially to your local animal shelter, there are still many other options such as offering spare or barely used items you may have lying around the house, shelters will always be grateful to receive any extra toys, blankets, beds and most importantly, food.
If you don’t have any of these items yourself, you can still help by calling around local homes or businesses to see if they might have anything of use which could be donated to the shelter.

Walking Animals

You may not be able to spend days at a time helping at your local shelter, but when you do have a spare moment, a great way to help out is to offer your assistance with walking the animals. Dogs need a lot of exercise, and this can be extremely time consuming for workers at the shelter, therefore an offer to take the dogs out even just one day per week would still be a huge help in freeing up some time for the workers to focus elsewhere.

Spread the word and widen the helping community

One extremely easy and valuable way to help your local shelter is to simply aid them in spreading the word. Make sure to follow them on any social media channels and join their communities so that you can share information about fund-raising events with your friends, and promote their various needs through your own social media.

Participate in fund raising events

Shelters will often host their own fund-raising events, such as a sponsored walks or concerts. Getting involved with these will help to demonstrate your support, and can also encourage others to develop an interest in the shelter too. These shelters rely on community support, so it’s important to participate whenever you can.
