Pets fall into most our lives at some point or another, whether you grew up with a pet, own a pet, or plan on getting a pet! They require a lot of time and care, and tend to become part of the family.

Just like humans, all pets are unique in their looks, personality, and in the talents they possess.

1) The Shortest Donkey

The shortest donkey in the world goes by the name of 'KneeHi' - a brown jack measuring just 64.2 centimetres! He was born on the 2nd October 2007, at Best Friends Farm in Gainesville, Florida, USA. Measuring just 41.9cm (16.5") when born!

2) Tallest Dog

The tallest dog ever recorded is 'Zeus' A Great Dane, who measures 1.118 metres! This height was recorded on the 4th October 2011 by its owner Denise Doorlag and her family in Otsego, Michigan, USA.

3) Largest Horn Circumference (Steer)

The largest horn circumference on a steer measured a massive 95.25 centimetres on 6th May 2003. It belongs to Lurch, an African Watusi Steer owned by Janice Wolf of Gassville, Arkansas, USA. Unfortunately Lurch died at 3pm on the 22nd of May 2010, due to cancer at the base of one of his horns.

4) Longest Ears on a Dog

dog measured 31.1 centimetres and 34.3 centimetres for the left and right ears respectively. This record was measured on the 8 June 2010. They belong to Harbour, a black and tanned coloured Coonhound, who is owned by Jennifer Wert of Colorado, USA.

5) Highest Ranking Camel

The world's highest ranking law-enforcement camel is Bert! He was accepted as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in the USA. Bert regularly goes on patrol with his handler Nance Fite.

6) Largest Living Cat (Liger)

The largest living cat is 'Hercules', an adult male 'Liger', which is a cross between a Lion and a Tigress. Hercules is currently housed at Myrtle Beach Safari, a wildlife reserve in South Carolina, USA.

Measuring a total length of 3.33 metres, and standing at 1.25 metres tall, he weighs a huge 418.2kg! Ligers are generally larger than Lions or Tigers, while Tigons are generally smaller.

7) Longest Jump by a Cat

The longest jump recorded by a cat is 6 feet! This was achieved by Alley in Austin, Texas, on 27th October 2013.

8) Fastest 30m on a Scooter by a Dog

The fastest 30 metres on a scooter by a dog was achieved in just 20.77 seconds by the aptly named Norman the scooter dog, on the 12 July 2013.

Norman a 3 year old french sheepdog earned the title when he beat the previous record by 9 seconds. Apparently Norman has been riding since he was a puppy!

9) Fastest time for a dog to retrieve a person from the water

The fastest time for a dog to retrieve a person from water over a distance of 25m, is 36.81 seconds. It was achieved by Jack the Black Vom Muehlrad and his handler Hans-Joachim Brueckmann, in the Kaarster See Lake in Germany, on the 11th June 2013.

10) Fastest 100m on a skateboard by a dog

The fastest 100m on a skateboard by a dog is 19.65 seconds and this was achieved by Jumpy the Dog on the set of 'Officially Amazing' on 16th September 2013.

11) Tallest Donkey

The tallest living donkey is 'Romulus', a 9 year old American Mamoth Jackstock, who measured 17 hands tall - so 5 foot and 8 inches - the 8th of February 2013.

12) Shortest Dog Length (Living)

The shortest dog in the world is 'Heaven Sent Brandy', a female Chihuahua who measured just 15.2 centimetres on 31st January 2005.

13) Bravest Donkey

On 19 May 1997 'Murphy', an Australian Army Donkey, was awarded the RSPCA Australia Purple Cross Award, an award for animal bravery, at the Australian war memorial on behalf of all donkeys that had served in the 1915-16 Gallipoli Campaign.

During the abortive offensive in the Dardanelles in 1915-16 Murphy carried wounded from the front on a perilous journey down the exposed rocky gullies to reach field hospitals. Murphy was trained by a 22 year old stretcher bearer John Simpson Kirkpatrick to carry wounded victims into the main tent of the hospital and reverse out on the command 'back pedal'. A statue of Murphy at the Australian war memorial is one of the country’s most enduring images of the First World War.

14) Largest egg from a Living Bird

The largest egg ever laid weighed 2.59kg! It was laid by an ostrich at a farm owned by Kerstin and Gunnar Sahlin in Borlange, Sweden, on the 17th May 2008.

15) Fastest 5 metres on front paws by a dog

The fastest 5 metre on front paws by a dog (which is quite a unique record…) is 2.39 seconds and was achieved by 'Konjo' at Tustins Sports Park in the USA on the 22nd December 2014.
