Grumpy Cat makes Broadway debut

Tuesday October 4th 2016

The internet's favourite cat made history by joining the cast of Cats on Broadway.

Social media sensation Grumpy Cat - real name Tadar Sauce - made her debut at the Neil Simon Theatre in New York and became the first genuine kitty ever to appear in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.

The nickname comes from her grumpy appearance caused by her dwarfism and an underbite.

Playing the leader of the cats Old Deuteronomy, actor Quentin Earl Darrington introduced Grumpy Cat to the audience following the performance.

"You've heard of several different kinds of cat - practical cats, dramatical cats, pragmatical cats, fanatical cats, to name a few. But, there's one more cat that you have yet to meet," he said. "Now, before we crawl off into the alley and carry on with the rest of our evening, we would like to introduce to you a very special cat...a Grumpy Cat."

Grumpy Cat found feline fame after a picture posted on Reddit went viral and has reportedly earned her owner Tabatha Bundensen £64million through merchandise sales and advert deals.

"Being selected as the first real cat to perform in Cats on Broadway was an honor. I hate it," the Grumpy Cat said in a statement. "If I'm really being honest, I'd prefer to play the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera."
