Ford Focus wins "top car of decade"
Wednesday December 23rd 2009
The Ford Focus has been crowned top car of the Noughties, beating off competition from its sisters Fiesta and Mondeo to claim the top spot.
Yet although Ford dominates the top five popular list, the US giant was nowhere to be seen in the "best value for money" chart created from an Auto Trader magazine poll.
Instead, the Fiat Panda was voted best value, topping a list of motors that prove some cars keep their value well after they have been driven off the forecourt.
In second place was the Skoda Superb, with the Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107 all jostling for space as they shared third place. Finishing off the best value list were the Kia Creed and the Citroen Xsara Picasso.
Back in the most popular stakes, the Ford Fiesta came second, and the BMW 3 Series was third in line. The Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Astra were the fourth and fifth most-loved cars of the past decade.
Petrolheads chose the Bugatti Veyron as the car "beyond your wildest dreams" - which unsurprisingly won most overpriced vehicle too - while the more pragmatic award for "greenest" car of the Noughties went to the Toyota Prius.
