Firemen rescue reindeers in traffic

Thursday December 24th 2009

Firefighters in Basingstoke made a gesture of seasonal goodwill as they came to the rescue of two reindeer caught up in travel chaos.

On Tuesday the animals were being towed in a trailer by their owners through a Hampshire town when their owners became stranded during the gridlock in the area.

The reindeers' owners were worried about their welfare, so firefighters found room in Basingstoke fire station for them to stay the night.

Watch manager Dave Williams said: "They were certainly among the more unusual visitors we have had to the station."
