Firefighters rescue cat stranded over river

Thursday September 10th 2015

A cat named Fireman Sam had to be rescued by firefighters after being spotted perched dangerously over a river.

Now the hunt is on to find the tabby's owners. Tuesday afternoon's (September 8) drama unfolded after Lincolnshire firefighters received reports of a cat stuck on a pipe over Boston's River Haven at high tide.

Locals applauded the the 999 crew after they rescued the moggy, which does not have a microchip. Firefighters named the cat Fireman Sam - after the children's TV animated character - and took him to be looked after by vets in Boston.

The vets say they are hopeful that he will be reunited with his family. His owners might be able to recognise him from the fish charm flea collar round his neck, they said. If an owner is not found by next Tuesday (September 15) then a rescue unit will take in Fireman Sam.
