Fierce looking cat holds fur record

Friday August 30th 2013

A very mean-looking moggy has broken the world record for the cat with the longest fur at nine inches, or 22.87cm.

Colonel Meow, who lives in the US, already has his own channel on YouTube and has won more than 1.3 million views. The Himalayan-Persian cross-breed also enjoys a Facebook page with nearly 180,000 likes.

Photos of the colonel were posted with captions telling of his desire to dominate the world, his love of Scotch whisky and his hatred of birds, and he became a hit online.

Now Colonel Meow is to feature in the Guinness World Records 2014 book which comes out on September 12.

Owners Anne Marie Avey and Eric Rosario are holding a celebration of the record at their Los Angeles home. The couple "already knew that he was the best cat in the world, but to be recognised in the Guinness World Records book takes it to the next level", said Ms Avey.

She added that everything in the house had hair on it, including her husband and her, saying: "I feel like I'm always vacuuming."
