Facebook search finds Chester a home

Wednesday April 8th 2015

The power of social media has helped a dog find a home at last after being in animal shelters for five years.

Six-year-old Pitbull mix Chester spent time in two shelters in Long Island, USA, and was overlooked by hundreds of families looking to adopt a dog.

But staff working at the North Fork Animal Centre weren't prepared to prolong Chester's wait and set up his own Facebook page in order to speed up the search.

On the Chester Waiting For Five Years page, a picture of Chester with a sign asking "why doesn't anybody want me?" was posted and his plea was shared by around 2,000 people.

The page prompted responses from all over the country and from as far away as Australia but Chester didn't have to travel far to find a loving home - he is now with a Long Island family not far from the centre.
