Dogs strike a pose in festive fashion show
Monday December 14th 2015
Dogs in Peru have been strutting their stuff on the catwalk in the first Pet Noel fashion show.
Dozens of owners got into the festive spirit by dressing up their pooches as elves, Father Christmas, reindeer - and even turkeys.
Many of the dogs were given colourful sweaters, hats, fake antlers, jackets and wigs to wear during the event in Peru's capital Lima.
Some were happy enough to parade on the catwalk, showing no signs of stage fright, but others portrayed diva-like behaviour and refused to go on, so had to be carried by their owners instead.
The parade attracted a lot of interest, with around 500 people gathering in the San Isidro municipality to watch and cheer on the canines as they showed off their Christmas outfits.
Organisers of the event said they came up with the idea of holding a seasonal fashion show to promote responsible dog ownership and raise awareness about the dangers of setting off fireworks around pets during the festive season.
