Djokovic helps re-home rescue dog
Monday July 8th 2013
A rescue dog has captured the heart of champion tennis player Novak Djokovic, who has spent his downtime at Wimbledon trying to find it a new home.
The world number one and his girlfriend Jelena Ristic helped a campaign to re-home the goldendoodle - a cross between a golden retriever and a poodle.
Djokovic's own toy poodle Pierre has become the Serbian's team mascot.
The player tweeted to his two million followers: "My friends from Dogs Trust came to see me and brought along play-date for Pierre…So I committed to help them find her new family... Let's find her home! Everyone deserves to have a family!"
He added the dog was a "beautiful 1-year-old Goldendoodle who was just recently left by her owners".
He named the white dog Bella, a reference to the Serbian word "bela" meaning "white".
After the plea, the charity was able to place the pup with new owners in Faversham, Kent.
