Could you work until you dropped?
Wednesday July 7th 2010
The latest research by stationery supplies company AOS Online shows that Britons spend around 80% of their adult lives at work.
But if you are unable to spend this amount of time in the workplace, then income protection insurance could be an important consideration.
Especially as the AOS study follows news that the Government may raise the retirement age from 65 to 70 because of increased life expectancy.
The GMB union has blasted the possible changes, saying that they will force people to work 'until they drop' and hit poorer people hardest.
GMB general secretary Paul Kenny said: "To force someone who has done a lifetime of toil on building sites, in farms or in factories to work until they are 66 is completely unacceptable."
AOS's research also highlighted the fact that Britons already work much later than some of their other counterparts in Europe - including the French who retire at the average age of 62.
