Christmas rush for new Sony console
Monday December 2nd 2013
Gamers camped out overnight in London a bid to get hold of Sony's new PlayStation 4 console in time for Christmas.
With Amazon saying UK customers wouldn't get their console before December 25 unless they'd pre-ordered before November 13, many pinned their hopes on the midnight launch in Covent Garden.
Imran Choudhary was near the front of the queue. He said: "It was always my goal to try and be one of the first people in the country to get hold of a PS4."
Sony says it is meeting "unprecedented" demand for PS4 with a spokesman saying the consoles are already "starting to sell out".
But the firm is setting up a special stock-tracker website to help people get their hands on available devices and says it is working "with all parts of the supply chain including our partners at retail to get more, as and when we can".
PS4's UK launch comes a fortnight after it went on sale in the US and a week after Microsoft's Xbox One hit stores around the world, both devices selling more than a million within the first 24 hours.
