Charity seeks dog educators

Friday October 3rd 2014

An animal charity is looking for dog owners in west London to help raise awareness of responsible pet ownership.

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home needs volunteers in Ealing, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Hammersmith and Fulham who will teach others how to deal with, care for and train their dogs.

The scheme aims to prevent impulse-buying of pets, reduce the number of dogs bought as status symbols, and cut down on the number of abandoned pets in the UK.

The volunteers will talk to school pupils and visit a wide range of organisations to talk about animal welfare.

Battersea says it has already recruited volunteers across the city but still needs more dog owners in the five west London boroughs.

Carly Whyborn, head of operations at the charity, praised the volunteers for making a real change to people's approach to pet ownership.

She added that Battersea is "extremely grateful" to everyone who gives up some of their time to help support the charity.
