Cats help to remix album

Tuesday October 6th 2015

The mainstream music world may have given us Catatonia, Atomic Kitten and The Pussycat Dolls.

But for too long dogs have had their own way in the rap world with the likes of Snoop Dog among the canine-named artists out there. Now hip-hop combo Run the Jewels are striking a note for cats in this genre with their new remix.

The pair have included cat noises on the reworking of their album Run the Jewels 2. Re-named Meow the Jewels, the album is aimed at music fans who love felines.

Lil Bub, the US celebrity moggy, features on the track Meowrly, while several fellow cats also lend their vocal cords to the album. An initiative on Kickstarter, a funding platform for creative projects, helped to finance the remix and raised $65,700, or around £43,000.

Its success helped to persuade the hip-hop duo to press ahead with the album, which can be downloaded free of charge from Run the Jewels' website. Kickstarter's founders say that some of the money raised by the album will go to good causes.
