Cat found abandoned on doorstep

Wednesday July 8th 2015

An animal charity is looking for a new home for a young cat that was dumped on a doorstep in a cardboard box.

The Scottish SPCA was alerted after the six-month-old moggy was found abandoned outside a house in Edinburgh on Friday night.

The cat, named Yvaine by rescuers, is now being looked after by the charity's Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

SPCA inspector June Chalcroft says someone left Yvaine in a box and rang the doorbell before fleeing the scene at around 11pm on Friday. The person who discovered Yvaine does not know why the cat was left on their doorstep or who she belongs to.

The rescue centre will care for Yvaine, a semi-long haired cat, until she is found a new home. She is said to be in a good condition and described as "a lovely, friendly girl".

Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA's animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
