CJ is top dog at US pooch parade
Thursday February 18th 2016
A German short-haired pointer's appearance in a long-running dog show has impressed US judges for the second year running.
CJ beat off almost 3,000 rivals to be crowned Best in Show at Tuesday evening's (February 16) Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. This follows his victory as best of breed last year.
Three-year-old CJ beat off challenges from rival Skye terrier, Samoyed, German Shepherd, Shih Tzu, bulldog and Borzoi hound claims in the New York final. The judges fell for CJ's well-balanced, graceful gait, sleek white coat, brown-spotted freckles and head of brown hair.
These were enough to repel the threat of runner-up, a Borzoi named Lucy. No other sporting group winners have taken the overall crown for seven years, and CJ is the 20th such dog to achieve this honour.
This was the 140th edition of the Westminster event, making it one of the oldest pet shows of any kind on the planet.
