Argos to launch tablet computer
Wednesday October 16th 2013
Argos's first venture into the tablet market hits the shelves today (Wednesday October 16).
Priced at £99, the high street chain's MyTablet is designed to offer consumers an affordable alternative to flagship tablets from firms like Apple and Google.
The 7-inch device, which will come in pink or silver metal cases, will run Google's Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 operating system and comes pre-loaded with apps, including Facebook and Twitter, and games.
Internet browsing, TV, music and video streaming, Skyping and social networking can all be carried out on MyTablet.
A spokesman said the device has been designed "with teenagers in mind offering all the functionality of a traditional tablet with built-in parental controls for younger users".
The device has a built-in two mega pixel camera plus a front facing camera, and is Wi-Fi enabled with Bluetooth capabilities.
Last month, Tesco announced its own tablet, the Hudl. Priced at £119, the 7-inch HD device also runs Android Jelly Bean.
