1,000-plus jobs go at TJ Hughes
Friday August 5th 2011
Administrators for the TJ Hughes chain have announced the date when 22 stores will close - leaving more than 1,000 people out of work.
Ernst & Young said the branches of the Liverpool-based department store will close next week, in a move that will see 1,061 jobs go as a sale of the firm's remaining business and assets is sought.
Joint administrator Tom Jack called the announcement of the store-closure schedule "regrettable" and went on to thank the firm's employees.
He praised TJ Hughes staff across the stores, head office and warehouses for their "loyalty and support" during what he called "a very difficult and uncertain time".
He added: "We continue in negotiations with a number of interested parties for a large number of the remaining stores in the group's portfolio, and we are keen to stress that those stores unaffected by these closures will continue to trade for the time being, with new stock lines being added."
